Below you’ll find the weekly themes. Provided are suggestions, but please plan accordingly in terms of art projects, circle time discussions, science projects, food projects…etc. and ensure your lesson plans reflect age appropriate activities.
• 01 June – Wild, Wild West!
Intro to the West….discussion of cowboys and cowgirls, talk of western wear. Paper cowboy hats. Popsicle cactus sticks. Tissue Paper Campfire. Cooking project ideas….”hay bales” (rice krispie treats). You could also re-design your dramatic play area into a campground!
• 08 June – Prairie Games
Potato sack races, horseshoes, corn hole, watermelon spitting, Bingo, Pony Express Relay Races, make bird houses
• 15 June – Kum Bah Yah
Home made Harmonicas, paper/rubberband banjos, learn campfire songs, play country music in your classrooms, use music sheet paper for art, teach a line dance and invite your parents to participate
• 22 June – Cactus and Tumbleweeds
Color or paint Sandpaper Cactuses, paint rocks, Food Project Idea (cucumber and toothpick cactus), talk about tumbleweeds and gardening
• 29 June – Let’s Explore
Scavenger Hunts, Nature Hunts, Paper Plate Snakes, Cowboy Chili Sensory Bins, Lasso Art, Food Project Idea (trail mix). Stem Project Idea (create covered wagons)
• 06 July – All American Week
Independence Day themed activities
• 13 July – Saddles and Sunsets
Sunset Painting, Paint Mountain replicas while outside, Sidewalk Chalk with sunset colors, Tissue Paper Armadillos, create pool noodle ponies
• 20 July – Rodeo Roundup
Paper Bag Horses, discuss different rodeo animals, we can try to arrange for some typical farm animals to come out like a horse, sheep or something similar.
• 27 July – Goldrush!
Pan for Gold with sand and gold colored beans, could try to have some geodes available to break open during circle time or as a science project, count pieces of gold
• 03 Aug – Covered Wagon Cooking
Focus on food projects…homemade butter, gold nugget popcorn (caramel popcorn), wagon wheel cookies, trail mix…etc. Discuss cooking utensils, have a pretend campfire. Build a barn out of pretzel sticks
• 10 Aug – Howdy Partner!
Focus on manners and Character Counts Pillars.
• 17 Aug – Back to School Hoedown
Community Outreach Event (Music, outdoor games, dancing, BBQ)

If you require supplies or items for food projects, submit those requests 2 weeks prior to your activity.
Every Thursday we’ll go to the “watering hole” or referred to as Water Play Day!
